Service Description
Qi Gong (pronounced CHEE Gung) is an ancient Chinese method of gentle exercise and mindfulness that can be performed by just about anyone. The playful practice includes Movement, Breath work, Static Poses, Visualization and Sounds which focus on optimal health, fitness and well-being, and change seasonally to reflect the body’s needs during different times of year in accordance with each season of the year: spring, early Summer, late summer, fall and winter (five seasons corresponding to the five traditional Chinese medicine energy reservoirs in the body). Summer - Abundance Joy, Connection, Sincerity, Communication (tongue) vs. Hatred, overdoing, cold-hearted indifference Intention: Inner Smile (sending Golden Light) sending sweetness to your body, yourself, others, the world Summer Element: Fire — Color: Pink to Red (organ function energy), Heart/ Small intestine (physical organ), Tongue (sense organ), Heart cardiovascular system, Life stage (adolescence, early adulthood). Aggravated by: sun, hot, spicy or fried foods, alcohol, smoking, overstimulation from outside sources (social media, news, etc.), overdoing it in general. Some physical/emotional manifestations: agitation, high BP, palpitations, insomnia, heartburn, bullying rather than leading, controlling rather than guiding. Red face or tongue. Yelling rather than speaking. Inability to be STILL. Heart energy in harmony: sleep well, wake refreshed, steady voice but able to listen, able to connect to others. Inspired action. Class meets via Zoom Mondays 5:45-7PM Fridays 11:15 am The movements are very similar to light stretching and calisthenics but also facilitate a meditative state and connection with the movement of Universal Energy through the body. The overall intention of the class is “One inch taller; Five years younger”. ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: Dana McAvity has been practicing and studying QiGong for 14 years. She received her teaching certification from Lee Holden and has also studied intensively with various Masters, including Yang Yang, Mingtong Gu, Robert Peng, and Kenneth Cohen. She serves on the boards of the Global Lyme Alliance and the Hyde School in Bath, Maine.
