A MANSION WITH A MISSION

Perched on 5.1 acres overlooking Milton Harbor, Wainwright House is more than a historic estate — it is a place of reflection, learning, gathering, and renewal.

Founded in 1951 by Fonrose Wainwright Condict following a conversation with Reverend Norman Vincent Peale, Wainwright House was established as a nonprofit, non-sectarian learning center devoted to the exploration of body, mind, spirit, and community.

Today, our mission continues to guide everything we do:

Wainwright House is a learning center dedicated to inspiring greater understanding through body, mind, spirit, and community.

In this sacred space, we seek to inspire by offering initiatives in spiritual exploration, health and healing, and environmental awareness.

The estate includes a French château-style mansion, carriage house, cottage, and peaceful waterfront grounds that have welcomed seekers, thinkers, artists, and community members for generations.

Wainwright House also holds a unique place in history. It served as home to the Laymen’s Movement, whose members included John D. Rockefeller, J.C. Penney, and Dwight D. Eisenhower, and later hosted United Nations conferences on conflict resolution. Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjöld gifted Wainwright House a 300-year-old altar crafted from an African Agba tree, which remains in the meditation room today.

For 75 years, Wainwright House has welcomed influential teachers and thinkers including Joseph Campbell, Ram Dass, Deepak Chopra, Aldous Huxley, and Dr. Bernie Siegel. Today, the House continues this legacy through wellness classes, retreats, educational programs, sacred ceremonies, and cultural events that foster connection, contemplation, and community.

We invite you to join us in supporting the mission of Wainwright House and sustaining this special place for future generations.
