Winter Qi Gong
Winter Qi Gong with Dana McAvity (Zoom)
Service Description
Qi Gong (pronounced CHEE Gung) is an ancient Chinese method of gentle exercise and mindfulness that can be performed by just about anyone. The playful practice includes Movement, Breath work, Static Poses, Visualization and Sounds which focus on optimal health, fitness and well-being, and change seasonally to reflect the body’s needs during different times of year in accordance with the teachings of Traditional Chinese medicine. The Winter practice emphasizes the Water Element/Kidney system: moisture balance in the body, the skeletal, reproductive, immune and spine/back/central nervous systems. It is great for more energy during the day and better SLEEP. Class meets via Zoom Mondays at 6:00 pm and Thursdays at 11:30 am, and occasionally in person. The movements are very similar to light stretching and calisthenics but also facilitate a meditative state and connection with the movement of Universal Energy through the body. The overall intention of the class is “One inch taller; Five years younger”. ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: Dana McAvity has been practicing and studying QiGong for 14 years. She received her teaching certification from Lee Holden and has also studied intensively with various Masters, including Yang Yang, Mingtong Gu, Robert Peng, and Kenneth Cohen. She serves on the boards of the Global Lyme Alliance and the Hyde School in Bath, Maine.
